Once I installed the drivers I was able to download from the radio using the UV-82HP protocol. My programing cable was quite generic looking so it turned out I needed drivers for the CH340 chip. I would expect that even if this radio wasn't compatible with the UV-82 protocol in chirp that I would still get some RX/TX happening on the radio briefly while the software tried and failed to establish communication.ĮDIT: seems like I just needed to keep cycling through drivers rather than using baofeng drivers. I believe I have the correct driver installed because it's been assigned a COM port but when I try to download from the radio the screen doesn't light up at all (no RX/TX indicators). I am using a new programming cable so I don't know if the issue is the radio or the cable. Secondly, I have programmed UV-5r radios in the past but I am having a difficult time even downloading the UV-82 Plus current configuration in chirp. I was wondering if anyone happens to know, is the UV-82 Plus the same as the UV-82HP? I just bought a baofeng UV-82 Plus and now I am looking for specifics regarding programming and have noticed this particular model doesn't seem to be mentioned often.
